About Us
Almost everyone needs a car to move from point A to point B. Many families have two or more cars, but purchasing a brand new car in Ghana is more of a luxury than a necessity.
This is because of the lower income levels and standard of living as compared to the western world. Due to this, it is only a small percentage of the population that can buy brand new cars, thus resulting in a huge marked for slightly used cars in Ghana.
To try to meet this demand therefore, a lot of used car dealerships have sprang up over the years in almost all the major cities in the country, often located near major roads for good visibility and easy accessibility.
Many of these dealerships are however forced to relocate anytime there are road expansions and major infrastructural developments destabilizing these businesses and in some cases, collapsing them totally. In order to regulate the various used car dealerships and jointly find solutions to some of these challenges, the used car dealer association was formed in 2002 and registered as Used Car Dealers Association of Ghana (UDAG) in 2007.
As mentioned earlier, the association was established in 2002 by a group of five vehicle dealers in Accra. It currently boasts of over 450 registered businesses with about 750 individuals in Accra alone. Country wide, it has over 1200 individuals and over 800 companies in the country. The core business of its members is the importation of slightly used vehicles.
The overall objective of the association therefore is to regulate its members to ensure the availability of top quality, vehicles for all types of consumers, at a competitive price and also to take advantage of the benefits of collective bargaining.
Due to the variety of the cars and equipment that its members import, the association is now known as Vehicle and Assets Dealers Association of Ghana (VADAG) which was established in 2016 to serve as a mouthpiece of vehicle dealers in Ghana.
We, the Vehicle and Assets Dealers Association of Ghana, hereinafter referred to as VADAG are determined to uphold the dignity of our business by maintaining a genuine association of vehicle dealers which is independent of external domination and therefore decides its own policies and actions in response to its needs, and conscious of our duty to serve faithfully the nation and members.
VADAG consists of vehicle dealers who import and sell all kinds of vehicles across the country with all our members registered under the laws of Ghana.
And by the year 2020, it became the Vehicle and Assets Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG).
We have committed ourselves to provide most efficient and affordable vehicles for Ghanaians of every class. It may interest you to know that, majority of cars used on the road are imported and sold by our members. Our companies have created more than five thousand direct jobs and over ten thousand indirect jobs.
We continue to pay our taxes and also contribute significantly to the development of the economy of Ghana.
